The project includes a pedestrian bridge extension to a public access area off Frelinghuysen Avenue with pick-up/drop-off points, improving transit access for Newark and Elizabeth's underserved communities.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey board approved a 10-year capital plan that includes more than $20 billion in airport projects. The plan includes establishing a public-private partnership to design and construct a completely rebuilt EWR Terminal B, adding gates to Terminal A, and constructing a third major taxiway.
The new $3.5 billion automated people mover AirTrain at EWR, with construction started in 2025, is included in the Port Authority's capital plan. The 2.5-mile system, slated to open in 2030, will increase capacity to 50,000 daily riders from the current 33,000.
