Newark Liberty International Airport

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced it is partnering with three autonomous vehicle technology companies (Oceaneering, Ohmio, and Glydways) to test electric self-driving shuttles at Newark Liberty International Airport throughout spring 2026. Tests are part of the broader $3.5 billion AirTrain Newark replacement project scheduled to open in 2030.

The Port Authority board of commissioners approved a 10-year capital development plan that includes more than $20 billion in airport projects in January 2026. The most significant project will establish a public-private partnership to design and construct a completely rebuilt EWR Terminal B, which handles international flights, along with adding gates to Terminal A and a third major taxiway.

The Federal Aviation Administration extended restrictions on flight operations at Newark Liberty International Airport through October 24, 2026, to reduce congestion and delays. The hourly flight limit increased from 68 to 72 operations starting October 26, 2025, with a cap of 36 each for arrivals and departures.
