Updated Mar 28, 2026On March 20, 2026, the Hawaii Department of Transportation reassured the public that all Hawaii airports, including Kahului Airport, are being staffed and will remain open and operational despite the partial shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security affecting TSA funding nationwide.
The Hawaii Department of Transportation selected International Shoppes (iShoppes) on February 10, 2026 to provide retail and in-bond duty free concessions at Kahului Airport.
The Hawaii Department of Transportation commenced the $46 million Transportation Security Administration Checkpoint project at Kahului Airport in May 2025. The new two-story security screening checkpoint will have six new passenger screening lanes and is expected to be completed by December 2026. A pedestrian bridge will connect the new south checkpoint to an expanded passenger waiting area.
